An exploratory study to determine the effectiveness of Nubuild, a FDA listed OTC topical analgesic especially formulated for the relief of symptomatic osteoarthritis or joint inflammatory condition in the knee joint.

Abstract:
Rheumatic conditions such as arthritis and chronic joint pain are the leading cause of limitation of activity and disability among adults in the United States. The most common approach to the treatment of these chronic complaints is pharmacologic in the form of both prescribed and over-the-counter non-steroidal anti-inflammatory agents (NSAID’s). The purpose of this study is to determine the efficiency of delivering NuBuild, using a topical delivery method into the synovial knee joint. Methods: The investigational treatment in this study will be the application of NuBuild vs. Placebo, 2cc applied twice daily over the four week duration of the investigation. NuBuild is an over-the-counter topical preparation consisting of topical active ingredient trolamine salicylate specially formulate with a unique matrix of inactive ingredients that enhance the release of the active ingredient.

Results:
There was an effect in Flexion gained over time on the treatment group (4.25 vs. 3.81). There appeared to be an effect with decreased Pain over time (1.375 vs. 1.7273). There was a significant effect in Pain with Activity decreasing (5.375 vs. 6.5455). The Total Pain Score was shown to be less (7.625 vs. 9.0309) during the time of the treatment. Discussion: The application of a topical cream consisting of a blend of NuBuild is likely to increase range of motion and decrease pain in subjects that have symptomatic osteoarthritis or a joint inflammatory condition.
